If I had to choose between studying general subjects and specific ones, I would choose the latter. Jobs in today’s world are diversified into lots of specific groups, each with different characteristics. They have become so specific that general knowledge is not much needed when choosing a certain job. Thus, I think that schools should teach students the subjects that they desire, instead of forcing them to take all of the unnecessary classes.
It is not a good idea to take all the general courses in school, because learning general subjects could waste a student’s time and opportunity for reaching the occupation that they want. When students are being taught about a specific job and the knowledge that is needed for it, they would be able to focus on their dreams and achieve them. However, when students take all the trivial classes that are not necessary for their career, their dreams would be hindered because they are so busy taking care of all of that. I think it is better off for students to use more time focusing on the things that they desire.
Also, instead of getting mediocre knowledge of everything, performing well on one thing would be able to assist students in getting a better career. People who are excellent at a specific thing are much more needed than people who have general knowledge. So, when a person doesn’t have a specialty, but has a wide wisdom of shallow depth, I think he or she wouldn’t be treated specially or highly respected in a job field. For that reason, I think that schools should motivate students to focus on what they want to be, allowing them to let out their abilities and what they are capable of.
In conclusion, I agree that schools should teach students about specific careers and jobs. In that way, students won’t waste time on unneeded classes. Moreover, students can work outstandingly on their specialty, which would make them be accepted easily when applying for a job. On the whole, students’ brighter future would be able to be achieved if schools teach students what they need.
