The comparison between the ratio of S. suis detection in the
acute alcoholism group with the ratio in the cirrhosis group,
revealed that the cirrhosis model had a 60% S. suis detection in the blood and brain and that the acute alcoholism model had a 30%
detection. However, the number of S. suis detected did not differ
much between the acute alcoholism and cirrhosis groups. According
to the azan staining, at least parts of the liver had fibrosis in all
of the mice with cirrhosis, whereas none of the mice with acute
alcoholism had any form of fibrosis. There is a possibility that this
difference contributed to the different ratios of S. suis translocation
between the acute alcoholism and cirrhosis models
