The cost of using sea star traps includes the cost of each cage
(approximately $65.00 each) (Y. Chiasson, pers. comm., 2006), fuel to travel to
and from the traps, wages for labour and bait. However, the cost of travel to and
from open ocean sites could be negligible if growers are going to the site daily for
other activities and traps are being incorporated into their daily activities. An
additional cost to be taken into consideration is the cost of replacement cages
from broken or lost cages (F. Bourque, pers. comm., 2006).
