At the end of the current stress period, prior information
and the available solute mass measurements are used to
improve, if possible, the characterization of groundwater/
contaminant system, specifically the hydraulic
conductivity and plume distributions. The tradeoff analysis
indicated in step (b) is carried out again to determine
optimal pumping schemes for the remainder of the
remediation period. A new Pareto-optimal set of pumping
schemes is thus identified, the previously implemented
management strategy is modified accordingly,
and put in place over the next period Δts+1.
