2.4 Related Studies
Vocabulary is the basis for learning a language. Educational research shows that vocabulary strongly relates to main four skills’ comprehension, intelligence, and general ability. Many methods and strategies of teaching and developing vocabulary of EFL learners are used in the different ways.
2.4.1 Studies in Thailand
There are quite a number of the studies on the topic of vocabulary learning in Thailand with the variety of different details. For example, some Thai researchers study topic of vocabulary learning in a slightly different ways such as computer games, computer assisted language learning (CALL), and computer assisted instruction (CAI). All of the programs are consist of lesson plans, vocabulary exercises, games which are combined with graphic and sound. For example, Suchada Potisompapwong (2002) studies with the topic of The Development of CALL Exercises for practical The Pronunciation of Problem Sound in English for Mathayomsuksa two Students of Praprathomwittayalai School, Nakorn Prathom. The purpose of the study is to construct and develop efficient CALL exercises that practice the pronunciation of problem sound in English. She states that there are advantages of CALL used because students gain more score of post test than pre test after the use of developed CALL in class. The result also shows that students happy with songs and games in the program.
