Motivation – Type I and Type X. Farming, as a career, includes all the elements of
motivation that Daniel Pink (2009) said are necessary for the Type I (intrinsically-motivated)
individual to out-perform, the Type X (extrinsically-motivated) individual over the long term.
The elements of motivation for the Type I individual include autonomy, mastery, and purpose.
Ironically, for the intrinsically-motivated individual, money ceases to be a motivator if there is
enough money to cover the bills in the first place (Pink, 2009).
