Our study illustrates an economical way of
culturing S . hemiphyllum , a species native to Asia, in
an aquaculture system. We hypothesized that the
S . hemiphyllum could be used in integrated multitrophic
aquaculture (IMTA) and because this seaweed
grows quickly in ponds, it should be able to take up
signifi cant quantities of nutrients from fed aquaculture
activities. Further studies are needed to estimate the
environmental parameters on the growth and
nutritional composition of S . hemiphyllum .
