Job Overview:
The Plant Design & Piping (PD&P;) Engineer will provide plant design and piping engineering support to one or a number of Bechtel projects. Reporting to the PD&P; Engineering Group Supervisor (EGS), they will complete engineering design and specification for mining and mineral processing mechanical handling equipment in accordance with relevant design criteria, codes and standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Working closely with Plant Design and Piping Engineer(s) on the balance of Mineral Processing Plants.
Detailed engineering of mining and mechanical handling equipment
Ensure the timely preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals, including problem analysis and review of design
Perform calculations and basic preliminary analyses
Selection and specification of equipment / Preparation of specifications and design calculations
Preparation of flow or detailed piping and instrumentation diagrams
Performing system and equipment sizing calculations
Check manufacturer''s drawings and data for compliance with specifications
Assist in developing or review of material quantity estimates
Assists in detailed development of established design concepts for process systems, structures and equipment
Uses engineering computer aided design/computer aided engineering (CAD and or CAE) tools as directed
Compile, verify and correlate data relating to engineering problems
Assist in evaluation of suppliers
Provide input to and/or maintains records for equipment and components
Assist in preparation of material requisitions, specifications and other related procurement documents
Testing of materials
Coordinate assigned work with other technical personnel as directed
Participate in team meetings and reviews and maintain interaction with engineers and other designers in all disciplines
Perform other duties as required by Bechtel management

Proven experience in a lead role, enabling the successful candidate to provide technical guidance to those working under them
Good planning, scheduling and man hour control skills Basic Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or relevant technical discipline from an accredited university as well as a minimum of one year relevant work experience.
Additional studies, qualifications or experience in piping design
Proven experience in piping and plant layout design; preferably with a basic understanding of Mining industry requirements
Well conversant with all aspects of piping design and piping engineering
Previous experience working in a multidiscipline team ideally on a major EPCM project
Competent in current computer competencies for engineering / design including microstation and PDS
Basic understanding of engineering work planning, scheduling and cost estimating / Basic knowledge and understanding of technical and cost issues related to engineering designs
Basic knowledge of the application of engineering and construction materials related to design
Basic knowledge of related construction practices and the economics involved
Additional Requirements:
CPEng and/ or RPEQ would be desirable
Knowledge of relevant national mechanical and piping codes, standards and guidelines would be a benefit but is not essential
