4.2. Analysis and discussion of the QWL construct
4.2.1. Job characteristics
During the interview sessions, majority of the respondents emphasized their preference for taking up ‘challenging task’ and ‘interesting work’. These responses reflect the sentiments of those associated with the socio-technical movement, contemplating that an interesting and challenging work would lead to employee satisfaction (Mumford, 2006). Nevertheless, variety and challenge at work was found to positively influence job satisfaction in a study involving occupational therapist (Jenkins, 1991). Similar sentiment emerged from the respondents of this study like;
“… I try out new frilling and layouts every week and this gives me great pleasure and I experience joy at my work…” (E11: challenging and interesting work).
