You will be picked up from your Chiang Mai hotel and we will head towards Doi Inthanon National Park and Thailand's highest peak. Night time temperatures on the peak can be as low as -8 degrees centigrade. In the cold/dry season night time frosts are common. in fact on top of the mountain the climate is closer to that of Canada than that of lowland Thailand. Day time temperatures can be surprisingly cold so not forget a long sleeve jumper. On the way up we will visit Wachiritharn and Siritharn Waterfalls and the agricultural work at the Royal Project Research Station, the king and queen chedis, the best views across the park are found here, then on to the peak of Doi Inthanon the highest mountain in Thailand. Near the top we will take the Angkha nature walk where you can walk amongst the unique flora and forest at this altitude. There are both Karen and Hmong villages in the bounds of Doi Inthanon and we will see a Karen village on the way dow the mountain before making our way back to Chiang Mai.
Evening
Experience a night of traditional Northern Thai food and traditional Thai dance at Chiang Mai's premiere Kantoke venue (Khum Kantoke). Get to eat real Northern Thai food at kantoke tables while being entertained by traditional hill tribe dancers. Sample such northern delights as Northern Thai pork curry, Thai fried chicken, fried cabbage, Thai sticky rice and fried bananas to name but a few. This is an excellent way to sample Northern Thai food while being entertained by traditional Thai dance.
Day 2
We will visit Chiang Rai Province and The Golden Triangle, meeting point of Thailand, Laos and Myanmar. After pick up at your Chiang Mai hotel, your first stop will be Maekhajan hot springs a good spot to take a morning cup of coffee before heading up towards the stunning Wat Rong Khun often named 'The White Temple' due do its dazzling white colour inlaid with mirrored glass. A short drive from Chiang Saen will bring us to the Golden Triangle where you will have the option of a boat trip across the Mekong River to the Laos island of Don Sao. you will proceed to Mae Sai the Thai border town with Myanmar where we can spend some time at the bustling border market. You will also get a glimpse of Myanmar itself with it only being situated a mere ten meters away across the river. On the return leg to Chiang Mai we will stop to see The Karen Long Neck hill tribe as well as Akha and Yao tribal groups.
Note: You will be required to show your original passport if you want to take the boat ride on the Mekong to the Laos side. Please bring this with you if you want to take this option.
