Introduction
Cementoma is a dental ailment in which a tumor may be produced on the upper part of the teeth having striking resemblance to cementum. This tumor is made up of large number of tissues and is often harmless. Most of them are generally benign in nature thus reducing any chance of complexity of the disease. Since these tumors are non-cancerous there is negligible chance of any negative reaction on the long-term health of the person. Nevertheless, their negligence may disfigure the jaw and it becomes essential to get the affected bone discarded from the mouth. This can be done by surgical procedure.
Epidemiology
The occurrence of cementoma is quite rare and very few cases are reported every year. It is commonly seen that people having dark complexion such as Caucasian are more likely to develop this benign tumor in their teeth.
It is primarily found in more females and the age at which their occurrence is more likely is around the middle-ages, somewhere between 40-60 years. Although most middle aged population are more likely to acquire this disease either due to heredity or other factors, there have been few cases where children as young as 10 years have found to be diagnosed with this disease.
