The rotten fruits (Fig. 1A) as well as infected male inflorescence
(Fig. 1B) were collected from jackfruit trees of seven different locations
of Birbhum and Burdwan districts of West Bengal, India. All of
the male inflorescence and fruits are stored immediately in refrigerator
(4 C) before further studies. The fruit rot causing fungal
pathogens of jackfruits were isolated from the collected samples
on Malt Extract (ME) agar plates from the surfaces of the rotten
jackfruit directly without any surface sterilization as well as from
internal tissues after surface sterilization with 0.1% HgCl2 for
3 min. To avoid bacterial contaminations 100 lg/ml streptomycin
was incorporated with ME. The ME plates were incubated for
72 h at 28 C, for proper growth of pathogen. After visual growth
of the pathogens on ME plates they were further purified by streaking
on ME plates to get single colonies and finally stored in ME
slants at 4 C for further studies.
