To my mind, “Simple is possible” which can highlight the main concept of packaging design area.
Packaging is the significant and direct medium between consumers and goods. Most of the consumers will through packaging design to evaluate the products’ qualities (without taste). In my opinion, the processes of buying just happen in a few seconds and they will always with some impulsive mental activities. These impulsive activities are “making” by packaging designers. When people walk into a shopping centre or a supermarket, the bright and simple packaging will always at the first time to attract consumers’ eyes and stand out in the goods’ world. And these great packaging will make you have some impulsive feelings to buy these products. Therefore, I think “making impulse” is the one of most important missions of packaging designers.
According to psychological test, human brain receive the information has 85% is through by eyes, 10% is come from ears, at the last 5% is come from other organs. So, I think products’ packaging are like a story book which use visual way to tell a lovely story to our eyes. And our eyes will translate this story to our brain. Therefore, our eyes are like a conductive machine. If we put lots of massages in this machine at the same time, it can’t sieve and analyse the important information and translate to our brain. Thus, make the packaging “simple and clear” is the significant mission of packaging designers. A simple and clear “story” can keep a lot time in our consumers’ mind. So, when people meet their family members, friends, colleagues, etc. they can use some easily words to tell this impressional “story” and affect these listeners pay attention to this product. I think, this is the charm of packaging design.
