When it comes to carrying groceries home, most participants leave plastic bags at the counter. Only 5 percent indicate using new plastic or paper bags for the bought goods. 8 percent prefer to re-use old bags. The rest brings sustainable containers such as shopping bags or baskets and backpacks (60 percent), plastic boxes (16 percent), empty cardboard boxes (5 percent) and shopping trolleys (4 percent). Are those sustainable containers a sign of grown environmental awareness? – Maybe the 20 cents one has to pay for the bags do also play a role.
