Evidence for an action of T3 on MR cell is thus presented in the
air-breathing fish as it promotes the spatial distribution and the
osmotic function of these cells in both hyper- and hyposmotic
environments. Our data besides demonstrating a central role of
T3 in the regulation of whole body hydromineral homeostasis, confirms
the earlier reports on the metabolic and hydromineral actions
of thyroid hormone in this air-breathing fish [36,37,44] and
in tilapia [39].
