This case study outlines the journey from novice OER developers to end users and ‘embedders’ of OER in one particular context. As subject specialist and academic developer, I provided all the content for the units and made the design decisions.
I was very clear about what I wanted but I did not have the technical expertise myself to develop my vision and render it into the OER that I envisaged. So it was essential to work with a creative technical team who could translate my content
and ideas into user friendly and appealing OER with the tools available. Ours was a partnership of co-creators rather than
a client-contractor relationship, and one in which the user (the teacher) and his beneficiaries (the students) were always at the forefront of the development. It was also essential to work with potential users and their beneficiaries as a community
to review and evaluated the materials as we were developing them. I believe this emphasis is essential throughout the design, not only in OER design but in all design projects. This lies at the heart of inclusive practice and it underpins the philosophy of Universal Design.
