3. Results
3.1. Compost monitoring results
The average of triplicate temperature measurements taken from two locations in each pile were plotted (Fig. 1). During the 7-week active composting process, the materials were exposed to temperatures exceeding 65 °C for more days than the 3 consecutive days required by regulation (Thompson et al., 2003). In addition, temperatures were maintained higher than 50 °C for at least 15 consecutive days, with an average temperature higher than 60 °C to reduce the potential for spreading infectious disease through vectors such as flies.
