SCADA monitors the distribution bus voltage, the loads
at all the feeders inreal time and triggers an alarm when
unusual conditions are detected such as faults on a feeder,
overloads, etc. Smart Meters serve as remote SCADA
sensors whose data provide detailed information from the
remote sites of the distribution network. These information
when properly synchronized in time with the SCADA
operation, provide insight about the behavior of the
distribution network and help the utility design control
applications to enhance the utility operational reliability. The
SCADA system also provides feedback information on how
effective a control action is at the network.
