The unique structure of the reactor played an important role
in the success of the start-up of treating the soybean protein
wastewater in the integrated two-phase anaerobic reactor. The
structure design of two zones could separate the process of hydrolysis
acidification and methanogen, since acid-producing bacteria
and methanogen had different requirements on the environment
in the process of the anaerobic digestion (Mensah and Forster,
2003; Ren et al., 2002). The integrated two-phase anaerobic reactor
had some advantages in the structure as follows.
