Exploration in Kachchh district of northwest arid zone was started from Bhachau and preceded to Gandhidam, Anjar, Mundra, Mandvi, Nalia and Bhuj. The whole tract was a dry region with saline patches with large scale cul-tivation of arid to semi arid crops. At Bhujpur, S. sponta-neum (IND-07-1464) was collected on a dry river (Buki) bed. On the route from Mundra to Modhara, S. spontaneum was commonly distributed on river banks and dry river beds. These rivers are seasonal and water flows only during July and August. A total of 11 collections were made in this zone. Rann of Kachchh consisting of saline sandy desert had limited vegetation and no S. spontaneum was spotted under this condition
