Globalisation of the media makes it hard to apply one set of ethical principles. Media today is viewed worldwide and what may be ethically acceptable in one country may not be accepted an another.
Journalists are now multi-skilled. Journalists today have to be more than just writers. More often than not journalists have to be skilled in various aspects of multi-media. Their attempt to fulfil many different roles causes them to be exposed to different ethical codes.
The internet. This combines both of the previous points. Nothing is more global or multi-skilled than the internet. But, should the ability for free expression via the internet damage our ethics?
Profit is more valued. Media outlets are focusing on making money which sees the audience being regarded as consumers first and citizens second. Organisations want to provide what sells. Leaving us with the question: Is it ok to have have trashy media just because it makes money?
Privacy. Is hacking acceptable? Or should we be more appreciative to the right to have a private life?
