2.4. Color measurement
After taking the discs from each slice, the adjacent sides of each apple slice were used immediately for measurement of lightness value (L*, dark to light, on a scale of 0–100), hue angle (h0, actual color) and chroma (C, intensity of color) with a Minolta chromameter CR-300 at harvest and at each removal. Three readings were taken from the slice of apple and the average for each apple was calculated for each tissue type. The value for each replicate is the mean of ten apples. Any visual
browning incidence at the stem- and calyx-ends was also assessed as % of the fruit in each replicate at each removal
