When SMFC-3 and SMFC-4 were fed with used aquaculture
water having influent pH of 7.6, distance between electrodes of100 cm and connected with external resistance of 52 , average
COD and TN removal of 3.180 ± 0.090 and 0.169 ± 0.017 g m−2 d−1
were observed in SMFC-3; whereas these values were 3.180 ± 0.050
and 0.170 ± 0.019 g m−2 d−1, respectively in SMFC-4 (Fig. 5). The
maximum power densities during polarization of 3.730 ± 0.080
in SMFC-3 and 3.730 ± 0.060 mWm−2 in SMFC-4 were obtained
(Fig. 6b). Even for SMFC-3 and SMFC-4,the COD removal and power
density obtained for the validation experiments were slightly
higher than the predicted values by the model, whereas TN removal
obtained was slightly lower than that predicted by the statistical
model. However, the observed and predicted values for allfour validation
experiments were well within the 95% prediction interval of
the model predictions (Table 3).
