MATERIALS AND METHODS
Subjects
Five unrelated Thai patients were diagnosed as having GD through clinical
findings including hepatosplenomegaly and the presence of Gaucher cells in
bone marrow aspiration. Based on the clinical findings, four unrelated patients
were classified as type 1 and one as type 2. Consanguinity was denied in all
families. With the exception of patient 1, who had an elder brother with
similar clinical features and died at the age 18 months, others were sporadic
cases. Glucocerebrosidase activity in leukocytes was determined by using a
mixture of 4-methyl-umbelliferone-b-D-glucopyranoside as a substrate and
