Therefore, this study aimed to generate a multifunctional transgenic Lactobacillus with probiotic characteristics as well as the ability to degrade β-glucan and phytic acid (phytate) for the purpose of improving nutrient availability, increasing production performance and decreasing digestive diseases of broiler chickens. To achieve this we cloned and coexpressed B. subtilis WL001 endoglucanase celW, and A. fumigatus WL002 phytase gene (phyW) mature peptide phyWM, in L. reuteri XC1 isolated from the gastrointestinal tract of broiler chickens. The heterologous enzyme production and the broiler feed effectiveness of this genetically modified L. reuteri strain were studied.
