Conclusion
Exposure to a regular series of oral health
education sessions increases the use of fluoride-
containing toothpaste, as well as the frequency
of toothbrushing. For the next steps,
assessment needs to be carried out on the
effect of these project outcomes on the incidence
of caries. The reasons for decreased use
of dental services, increased consumption of
sugar-containing snacks once a day or more,
and decreased use of dental floss daily by
school children in the intervention arm of the
study also need to be determined. Additionally,
whether the change in observed behaviour
is sustained after discontinuation of the
study intervention needs to be evaluated.
After these issues are solved, can a scale-up
of the project into other parts of Nigeria be
proposed.
