The brown color in POME
media indicated the presence of tannic acid in POME media [13].
Tannic acid could inhibit the propagation of plants through
reduction in light absorption and lowered the rate of photosyn-
thetic reaction [13]. The same inhibitory effect of tannic acid on
productivity of Chrorella sp. was observed when cultured using
POME as growth medium [13]. The chlorotic characteristics of the
leaves (pale yellow in color) and size reduction in cotyledons had
been observed in the explants cultured using POME but not in MS
media. This phenomenon showed that the leaves were lacking of
chlorophyll, which was due to the lowered rate of photosynthesis
