The total concentrations of short chain
fatty acids (SCFA) and the concentrations of ammonia
were high on day 4 a.p., decreased on day 1 p.p. and
subsequently increased until day 5 p.p. (P < 0.001 and
P = 0.001 for SCFA and ammonia, respectively). The
concentrations of i-butyric acid (P = 0.037), n-butyric
acid (P = 0.025) and n-valeric acid (P = 0.012) were the
lowest on day 5 p.p. when compared to the other measuring
times.
