Facebook suffered a widespread outage Tuesday affecting users in the United States, Asia and Australia. The social media giant's Instagram service was also inaccessible. The outage reportedly lasted for as long as 50 minutes.
Instagram said on its Twitter account that it was aware of an outage and is working on a fix.
There was no immediate statement from Facebook.
Facebook had 1.25 billion monthly active users at the end of September.
The Lizard Squad hacker group claimed responsibility.
The hacker group yesterday claimed responsibility for hacking Malaysian Airline's website (See here) and has previously claimed responsibility for hacking the Xbox and Playstation computer game devices during the Christmas holidays.
