In addition to the pressure created by the push to debug the computer quickly, further tension was produced by the necessity for Al Abrams to being checking out on the computer portions of the system he was developing. It was necessary for Sturdivant to have a finished operating system before the computer could be put through exhaustive acceptance test, yet the testing of the system required operation machine time. This made it mandatory to utilize any time when the contractor's employees were not performing development work that interfered with machine operation.Much of this available time was lost, however, because Abrams was unable to interrupt abruptly his efforts on one phase of the system to place other parts of it, which he may have mapped out several weeks earlier,in the machine, run them ,and evaluate the results.
