Using a sample from the 1983 Federal Reserve’s Survey
of Consumer Finances data set of consumers who
obtained at least a $500 loan in the previous year, Chang
and Hanna (1992) investigated the factors associated
with consumer search behavior. They found that
consumers engage in little information search and that
the size of loan and education had a positive relationship
with search, while income had a non-linear effect on
search.
