At many companies the budget process is
simply broken. One of the biggest failings,
according to Carlson, is that the budget is
not linked with business strategy. Add to this
the fact that the process takes far too long,
that budget managers see no real benefit in
the whole process and that finance usually
does most of the work with little buy-in from
department heads, and you have a recipe
for failure.
