Rahab literally means “violence,” and this archangel is called Sar Shel Yam, “prince of the sea.” This is a great and mighty angelic presence that can manifest in the most splendorous and beautiful peaceful emanation, or in the most intense and terrible wrathful emanation, and with this holy angel of God there is no “middle ground” between the two, and this angel is known to shift between the two very swiftly when it is called for. On account of this, at times, Rahab as been called an “angel of rebuke,” or “stern judgment,” but of course, then there is the emanation of this angel in mercy, and so he-she is also called “angel of the merciful love of God.”
