Synthetic aperture radar (SAR) data has been widely used in disaster management. Polarimetric SAR data is very effective for classification as it responds to scattering mechanisms for different targets. The radar polarization describes the orientation of the electric field component of an electromagnetic wave and imaging radars can have different
polarization configurations. The transmitted radar waves can be horizontally (H) or vertically (V) polarized and can be
received in both H and V components, with the resultant combinations of HH (Horizontal transmit, Horizontal receive),
VV (Vertical transmit, Vertical receive), or HV (Horizontal transmit, Vertical receive).
