Measuring Badminton Skills
French Short-Serve Test
Purpose : The purpose of this test is to measure the student’s ability to execute a badminton serve accurately, short, and low.
Validity : A validity coefficient of .66 was obtained using the criterion of ladder tournament rankings.
Reliability : Reported correlational coefficient range from .51 to .96
Age Level : 10 – college
Norms : Not reported
Test Area : A regulation badminton court with appropriate target markings.
Instruction : The student stands behind the short service line and executes 20 consecutive legal short serves, attempting to hit the shuttlecock between the rope (strung the length of the net and 20 inches above it) and the net and land it in the target area shown in Figure 7.19. Two practice trials are permitted.
Equipment Needed : Tape measure, two dozen shuttlecocks, badminton racquets, rope to stretch above the net , marking tape.
Scoring Procedure : The score is recorded for each successful serve that passes between the rope and nets and lands on the target area. No points are awarded for serves that fail to pass between the net and the rope or shuttlecocks landing outside the target area. Twenty trial are administered. The total accumulated point are recorded as the student’s score.
Organizational Hints : The rope used should be highly visible to assist in determining the flight of the shuttlecock. If the shuttlecock hits the rope, it is reserved and count as a retrial.
