In the Thai of today, health services are provided by both private economy and public sector, the ratio of average per capita expenditure being about 2:1 private over public. The in predominantly in curative medicine and private sectors concentrated in Bangkok metropolis and the 126 small muninipalities of the country Health service of the public sector are concentrated in the provincial areas. Howeve since the fourth five-year-plan there has been a rapid growth in the number of community hospitals and health centers. Bangkok metropolis has a heavy concen- tration of both governmental and private health facilities and personnel. There is also a great disparity in favour of Bangkok with regard to the scope and quality of medical services available. Extending over the entire country and underlying both public and private health care systems, there remains a variegated network of traditional medical practitioners which is integrated into the traditional Thai cultural patterns and with serves directly of indirectly the population for its symptomatic problems. Through primary health care approach, Thailand achieves almost ful coverage of trained health volunteers and communicators at the vilage level. The concept of village-based self-managed primary health care activities are being extensively promoted.
