Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) was once thought to be a
childhood disorder, however, it is now recognised that it can continue into
adulthood. Given the need for continuing care for many young people as they
move into adulthood, and the changes that the individual must cope with,
service providers and individual clinicians in both child and adult services
need to do all they can to ensure that the transition period is a smooth one.
Provision of transition services varies from area to area. This article will discuss
transition, barriers to transition, and how nurses can play a role in working
towards improving this process.
