The Sematan mangrove forest is rich in crab and molluscan
macrofauna. The total of 75 identified species
recorded is high compared with other studies of mangrove
macrofauna in South-East Asia (Frith et al. 1976, Sasekumar
1974), despite the limited scope of the study. Only a
small fraction of the mangrove community was sampled
so the plots are not totally representative of the whole
