4.1 Painted vehicle component shall be between 60 and 110 F.
4.2 Exterior Ornamentation component shall be at recommended suppliers temperature (part should be within 60-110 F temperature range).
4.3 Use the permanent marker to label each exterior ornamentation component sample with a number (be sure to mark the class A surface).
4.4 Identify location for exterior ornamentation on vehicle component. Clean this area with an approved dry wipe cloth or use 50% water/50% alcohol mix with lab grade tissue.
4.5 Apply a very thin coat of water-based paint with a closed-cell foam paintbrush to the painted vehicle body where the exterior ornamentation will attach.
4.6 Allow paint to dry. It is important to wait for the paint to dry before beginning the test. Paint that is too wet or too dry will not accurately determine wet-out.
4.6.1 To verify wetness, check for paint transfer to your fingertip. Do not touch ornamentation interface area. When the paint no longer transfers to your finger, the paint is ready.
• Depending on ambient temperatures and humidity, this should be accomplished in about 3 to 5 minutes at room temperature or quicker if body heater, fans, etc. are present.
4.6.2 The paint is too dry if it has been on the vehicle for more than 20 minutes.
• If the paint flaked on the adhesive surface after the wet-out test, then the paint was too dry.
