Business bigwigs have been informed by senior Government officials that only “a few” of the 27 EU member states have not yet agreed a reciprocal rights deal with Britons in the Union and EU nationals living in the UK when Britain leaves the disintegrating European superstate.
While a formal deal has yet to be agreed upon, talks are thought to be at such a late stage that there could be an announcement during an EU summit in Brussels next month. An estimated 3.3million EU nationals live in Britain, while 1.2million Britons live across the other 27 member states – meaning the UK has added around 2.1million people from the EU to its own indigenous population.
Poland has an estimated 883,000 migrants living in Britain, making it the country with the most EU nationals living in the UK.
Germany (297,000) and Romania (229,000) are the other two nations with the most nationals living in the UK.
