Finally, some work is more valuable and worthwhile to society than oth¬ers. Many people choose to work as nurses, day-care providers, social workers, police, or military personnel because these are positions in which they can make an important contribution to their community. These are important jobs that any stable community must fill. For many people, this alone is reason enough to pursue such work. Other work, such as the performance of artists and musi¬cians or work in crafts or agriculture, is valuable either in its own right or for the product that results. Much of this work is valuable not only for the product, but for the quality of the product.
