Mineral nutrients
The concentrations of Fe, Cu, and Zn increased in Mndeficient
(0 lM Mn) leaves and these mineral elements
were decreased with an increasing supply of Mn (Table 3).
The concentration of Mn decreased in the leaves of Mndeficient
plants. In fact, the Mn concentration was 8.7-fold
lower in plants grown on 0 lM Mn than in those grown on
5 lM. The concentration of Mn measured in Mn-deficient (0 lM) plants was well within the range of critical deficiency
levels (10–20 lg g-1 dry matter of leaves). An
excessive accumulation of Mn (sixfold higher than control)
was observed in the leaves of Mn-excess plants.
