4.1. Hypothesis 1: affiliation
H1 predicted that, compared to local firms, US affiliated Taiwanese firms would have organizational cultures that are more results (vs process) oriented (P1 in H1.1), more job (vs employee) oriented (P2 in H1.2) and more professional (vs parochial) (P3 in H1.3). The differences on P1 and P3 revealed by the MANOVA and follow-up ANOVAs provide support for H1.1 and H1.3. The mean scores on P1 show that members of the US affiliated firms saw their organizational practices as being significantly more results oriented (mean=7.3) compared to those of local Taiwanese firms (mean=7.9). The mean scores on P3 (5.6 and 5.9, respectively) show that members of the US affiliates saw their firms’ practices as being more professional (less parochial) than did members of the local firms. On the other hand, the absence of a difference for P2 (job vs employee oriented) fails to support H1.2.
