The subject of this study were 20 women, aged between 18 and 55 years, and having had at least one hospital birth followed by at least one planned home birth. They made up small focus group and discussed their thoughts and feeling of their birth choice and experiences (using open-ended questions focusing). Each focus group contained 4 participants and lasted between 1.5-2 hours. Field notes were observational in nature. The focus group were audiotaped and transcribed verbatim. Peer debriefing was conducted among the investigators after each focus group to compare interpretation and impression.
