Thailand’s Asian Games squad will hit the jackpot if they win the gold medal in Incheon, South Korea.
Coach Kiatisak Senamuang, right, and goalkeeper Kawin Thamasatchanan.
“Certain people will give the team in the region of 50 million baht if they win the gold medal at the Asian Games,’’ said team manager Kasem Jariyawatwong.
“I have managed several national teams and this is the best. We have a chance of winning the gold medal.’’
Thailand have never won a football medal at the Asian Games with their best results being semi-finals in 1990, 1998 and 2002.
This year’s Asian Games will be held from Sept 19-Oct 4.
Thailand are in a relatively easy group with Indonesia, Maldives and Timor Leste in the men’s tournament, which is for U23 players.
The squad will begin training in Phuket today.
They will have three warm-up games against Myanmar (Aug 31), Phuket FC (Sept 3) and Qatar (Sept 7) at Surakul Stadium before leaving for Incheon on Sept 10.
