Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha called Monday for the Japan Business Federation to promote more technological support and investment by Japanese companies to bolster the Southeast Asian country's economic growth.
Gen Prayut explained his country's efforts to establish a civil government in a meeting in Tokyo with Sadayuki Sakakibara, chairman of the business lobby known as Keidanren.
The prime minister stressed that the Thai government will provide support to encourage Japanese firms to invest more in the country through such measures as reviewing tariffs as demanded by them.
The meeting was held as part of the premier's three-day visit to Japan through Tuesday and ahead of a summit with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe later Monday.
Mr Sakakibara told Prayut that economic ties with Thailand remain important and Japan will continue to cooperate in railway, port and other infrastructure projects as well as training of engineers.
The latest meeting follows talks with the Thai prime minister and local business leaders in Thailand last week by Eizo Kobayashi, the chief of Keidanren's Japan-Thailand Trade and Economic Committee.
