Strategy Overview
Decision making is a skill that is at once highly personal and deeply ana-
lytical, academic and integral to everyday life, easy to take for granted
and critical to individual success. We are all forced to make decisions
every day, from the little decisions in the grocery store aisle to the far-
reaching decisions that affect our lives, our careers, and our families.
The Decision Making strategy hones this critical skill by providing
students with a unique opportunity to become personally involved in
what they are studying through questions such as these:
· Who was the most influential president of the United States?
· If you were in the position of Tim from My Brother Sam Is Dead,
whose side would you take in the argument between Sam and Father?
· Based on statistics, which player would you want to shoot a free
throw with the game on the line?
In addition to inviting students “into” the content, where they are more
likely to develop powerful insights, Decision Making also teaches stu-
dents a strategic approach to making informed decisions, which they can
apply to other content, controversial topics, and their lives beyond the
school walls.
