Contrary to classical MPS, first level job orders are not dispatched. They merely serve to transmit necessary information for the MRP. This allows the company not to constitute stocks of finished products. When customers send an order, they choose a configuration from among the options proposed. To the extent that forecasts are reliable, the various options needed for the order have to be available. One then decides the scheduling in the final assembly of this order.
If this principle appears simple in theory, its use is nevertheless complex. The duration of the final assembly must be inferior to the customer lead time. Secondly, customer orders must provide determined forecasts 10 weeks earlier. Finally, internally, lead times must be very rigorously respected. These difficulties will be reduced with the implementation of a rigorous approach to continuous improvement based on a JiT and TQ philosophy [16] in order to reach the best flexibility on physical flow, as well as by working to modularize the structure of the bills, which we clarify in the second part of our paper.
