Items were grouped by topic area to represent the major practices in our
field. Four topic areas, Instructional Design, Assessment, Learner-Centered
Instruction, and Curriculum Alignment, were chosen to represent core practices
within instructional design. The last two topic areas, Attitudes about

Computers and Use of Computers with Students, were selected to represent
the current focus on the use of computer technology in the classroom. The five
items within each topic area were created to address a broad range of
practices within their area so that they created a general sense of practice for
the area when examined as a group.
