As an indicator that the removal effort within a given year was overwhelming the supply of available trap debris, we explored whether the daily TEUs removed declines with days of removal effort. For 4 of the 5 study years, the daily amount of TEUs removed from BNP did not decline significantly with sampling effort, measured as the number of contractor working days (Table 3). Only in 2010, did greater sampling effort correlate negatively with total TEUs recovered, though the slope of this decline was modest (slope = −2.7).
